This form should only be used for student safeguarding or Prevent concerns. If your safeguarding or Prevent concern relates to a member of staff, please contact Human Resources (hr@sheffield.ac.uk).
Safeguarding concerns can include things such as physical, sexual, or emotional abuse, neglect, bullying, or exploitation. They can also come from situations where someone isn’t properly supervised, doesn’t have their basic needs met, or is exposed to danger.
Safeguarding is about protecting those who might be at risk of harm. This includes:
Children - under 16
Young people - aged 16 to 18, still legally considered children
Adults at risk - aged over 18 with Care and Support needs + experiencing, or at risk of, abuse or neglect + unable to protect themselves from abuse or neglect as a result of their Care and Support needs (all three criteria need to be evident)
Care and Support needs cover a range of issues including physical or learning disabilities, sensory impairment, mental health needs, the misuse of substances or alcohol to the extent that managing day-to-day living is compromised, or a long-term health condition.
Children or adults at risk of radicalisation - Prevent
Prevent is one arm of the government's strategy to address terrorism. Under the Prevent Duty, universities have particular responsibility to intervene where students are at risk of, or being subject to, a form of grooming called radicalisation, which can lead to belief in extremist ideology.
